PORT ANGELES – A wacky way to donate to the United Way of Clallam County will draw eight teams to compete in six outrageous events at the Vern Burton Community Center at 5 p.m. Friday.
The first United way Outrageous Olympics were set up to boost the campaign towards the $1,125,000 goal.
Entry fees and donations will help support the United Way, but the event is planned to make supporting the organization a fun and festive event, said co-coordinator Jamye Wisecup.
Games include the Wrung Out Rubber Chicken Relay, the Focus Factor Hoop Competition, Top-Off Building Project Race, Power Struggle Tug-of-War, Communication Chaos and a 12th Man Fan Club competition.
“These events don’t focus on the physical abilities , but more on the creative abilities of the team members,” said organizer Dan McKeen, Port Angeles fire chief.
The audience can cheer on their favorite team – or have a laugh at the wacky challenges, said Wisecup, Clallam County Emergency Management program coordinator.
“This is an event for people to enjoy,” McKeen said.
“There is no entry fee for spectators,” he added.
“They can come and enjoy and have fun in supporting United Way with their donations.”
Another way for the spectators to participate is to donate to the bucket of their favorite team.
The donations will be tallied for the 12th Man Fan Club competition, where the team with the most donations in the bucket will take first place.
After the events are wrapped up, a medal ceremony will be held to crown the teams in each of the competitions.
The brightly-colored team T-shirts were donated by Karen Rogers Consulting and Carol Realty – with silk screening provided by Captain T’s Custom Gear.
Medals for the winners were provided by the International Association of Firefighters Port Angeles group 656.
Pizza will be provided for a donation by All About Pizza and drinks from Peninsula Bottling Company.
