PORT ANGELES — The owners of the condemned Chinook Motel are hoping to continue to reside there if they spruce up the outside of the dilapidated building.
The owners, William and Awatef Younan, made the request in a letter to the city.
Nathan West, city economic and community development director, said he expects to meet with them this week.
The city has given the Younans several deadlines, most recently in January, to begin resolving the health and safety violations that led to the business’ closure at 1414 E. First St.
In its June 2009 condemnation order, the city listed 29 building and property maintenance violations, including rodent droppings, dead bedbugs, signs of living bugs and extensive water damage.
The property was listed for sale in November by John L. Scott of Yakima for $1.5 million.
It is worth $582,600, according to the Clallam County Assessor’s Office.
