PORT ANGELES — Like paraeducators, members of the Port Angeles Activities Advisors’ Association, which represents coaches, and the Teamsters, which represents building maintenance and grounds workers and bus mechanics, have been without contracts since Aug. 31.
Members of the Port Angeles Educational Office Professionals (PAEO) and the Port Angeles Public School Employees of Washington agreed to contracts with the district that delayed implementing the implicit price deflator (IPD) wage increase. An IPD is a figure calculated by the Bureau of Economic Analysis of the U.S. Department of Commerce.
The district and the PAEO, which represents administrative and support staff, signed a contract that included a 1 percent salary increase in 2023-24, an IPD increase the following year and the opportunity to negotiate a wage increase for 2025-26.
Bus drivers and custodians represented by the Public School Employees (PSE) did not receive an IPD for 2023-24, but bargained for longevity wage increases ranging from 3 percent to 24 percent based on years of service. In 2023-25 they will receive an estimated IPD wage increase of 3.9 percent.
