A California developer says he still has plans to build a multimillion-dollar timeshare condominium, aquarium and water park project in Clallam County.
But the 75-acre site of the former Rayonier pulp mill in Port Angeles has been scratched from his plans.
“I just don’t think its ever going to happen,” said Jerry Ward on Sunday, drawing this conclusion after recent discussions with Florida-based Rayonier chief executive officer Lee Nutter and the company’s real estate vice president, Charlie Majoretta.
Ward instead has asked Clallam County real estate agents to put feelers out for a new project site with a water view, and said the former Kmart shopping center at U.S. Highway 101 and Masters Road in east Port Angeles is among sites being considered.
Ward last summer proposed building a $122-million development on the Rayonier site, at the north end of Ennis Street on the Port Angeles waterfront.
The pulp mill closed on March 1, 1997.
