PORT ANGELES — A male pedestrian was killed as he attempted to cross U.S. Highway 101 in the dark just east of Deer Park Road and was struck by a car at about 6:40 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said.
The man was taken to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles, while an air ambulance was on standby.
Deputies did not immediately know the pedestrian’s name, age or hometown, said Sgt. John Hollis of the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office and Trooper Chelsea Hodgson of the State Patrol.
The collision happened in the westbound lane. One lane remained open to traffic Wednesday night.
Hollis said the car, a Chevy Bolt, had significant damage.
There is no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved, Hollis said.
