It’s manual recount day on the North Olympic Peninsula as Clallam and Jefferson counties begin an unprecedented third tally of the razor-thin governor’s election.
The Clallam County auditor’s office will be closed from noon to 1 p.m. in the courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles, while the recount of more than 36,000 punchcard ballots takes place today, Friday and probably Monday.
Elections officials will conduct the recount in the county commissioners’ hearing room.
It will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 or 5 p.m. each day, with time for lunch and breaks.
In Port Townsend, Jefferson County election staffers on Wednesday sorted and boxed 18,722 optic-scan ballots to be hand recounted today.
County Auditor Donna Eldridge said her office sorted and boxed the ballots by voting precinct.
