Temperatures in the 30s are expected Thursday morning for Port Angeles’ 16th annual Polar Bear Dip at Hollywood Beach.
Thursday’s weather forecast for both the Port Angeles dip at 10 a.m. and a plunge in Nordland at noon calls for rain showers and — shudder — possibly snow showers.
The good news: Air temperatures are expected to be in the low- to mid-30s, so the 40-degree water might feel, well, good.
About 90 people became or reaffirmed themselves as “polar bears” last New Year’s Day, braving air temperatures in the upper 40s and water temperatures estimated in the lower 40s.
