The circus is coming to Port Townsend — but animals won’t be part of the show.
An ordinance passed by the Port Townsend City Council in February prohibits the display of exotic animals for entertainment in the city.
The ordinance will receive its first test Sunday when California-based Circus Gatti comes to the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.
Performances are set for 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday.
Circus Gatti includes performances by elephants and a “big cat show” featuring tigers — but not in Port Townsend.
Animals will be part of the show when the big top stops at the Clallam County Fairgrounds in Port Angeles on Saturday.
Port Angeles does not have restrictions on exotic animal performances.
Port Angeles showtimes are 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Tickets for both the Port Townsend and Port Angeles shows cost $12 for adults. There is no charge for children younger than age 12.
