PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College will observe Billy Frank Jr. Day with events on Thursday.
The day will begin with a screening of “The Beautiful Undammed” at 12:35 p.m. in the Little Theater, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.
The film, an episode of the series Wild Hope, documents ecological revival of the Elwha River following the removal of two hydroelectric dams in 2012 and 2014.
Vanessa Castle, a fish and wildlife technician with the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe featured in the film, will share insights from her experience working on the river’s recovery and the filmmaking process.

Peninsula College First Nations Club will host a reception at 2 p.m. in ʔaʔk̓ʷustəƞáwt̓xʷ House of Learning at the Peninsula College Longhouse.
The gathering will honor the impact of Billy Frank Jr. and Vanessa Castle’s work toward environmental restoration and tribal rights.
