PORT ANGELES –Peninsula College officials are starting the recruitment phase for a new faculty member to head its future four-year degree program.
The Bachelor of Applied Science program in applied management was approved last week by the state Board of Community and Technical Colleges.
The college still has to pass two more hurdles, one being accreditation of the program, but College President Thomas Keegan said he’s confident it will get approved.
“This is the most important event in terms of higher education on the North Olympic Peninsula since Peninsula College was founded,” Keegan said.
The program will help both full-time professionals and recent Peninsula College graduates move into management or supervisory positions in their fields.
Degree has broad appeal
The college’s baccalaureate program is broad enough that workers in a variety of professions can use it.
People working in health care, information technology or auto mechanics can all take the same program to learn management, said Mary O’Neil-Garret, the college’s dean of instruction.
The college expects to enroll 25 to 35 students in the program its first year, which is slated to begin in the fall of 2007.
