Peninsula conservation district board elections coming; candidate filing period remains open in Clallam

North Olympic Peninsula conservation district boards have scheduled elections in March.

The candidate filing period for the Jefferson County Conservation District ended Tuesday, while the period for the Clallam district is open until 4 p.m. Feb. 14.

The Jefferson County election will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, at the district office in Shold Business Park at 205 W. Patison St., Port Hadlock.

The position held by Julie Boggs is up for election this year. The position held by Glen Hunt ­ing ­ford is up for appointment.

The Clallam County election for the three-year term of office now held by Marilyn Pollock will be Monday, March 14. Pollock is not seeking re-election.

There will be two polling stations where registered voters in Clallam County can cast their votes: the Sequim Public Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; and the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Anyone living in and registered to vote in Clallam County is eligible to run. To be listed on the election ballot, a nomination petition form signed by 25 or more registered Clallam County voters must be submitted.

The completed nomination petition, including the 25 signatures, must be verified by the conservation district in order for the candidate to be listed on the ballot.

Voters who are unable to cast their votes at the polling places may request an absentee ballot.

Absentee ballots must be requested by 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 1.

A 65-foot-long historic tug rests in the Port of Port Townsend Boat Haven Marina’s 300-ton marine lift as workers use pressure washers to blast years of barnacles and other marine life off the hull. The tug was built for the U.S. Army at Peterson SB in Tacoma in 1944.
