Clallam and Jefferson counties will be receiving more money in federal timber receipts for six years, thanks to a congressional extension of the Spotted Owl Guarantee.
Both counties received their first timber payments last week in accordance with the extended guarantee offered under the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act of 2000.
Jefferson County Central Services Director Gary Rowe said Friday that Jefferson County received approximately $1.2 million last week in Spotted Owl Guarantee funds.
Clallam County received $936,498 from the guarantee on Wednesday, Clallam County Treasurer Ruth M. Gerdon said.
Those funds will be forwarded to each counties’ respective road department to help cover the cost of maintaining rural roads, she said.
