Clallam County closed out 2002 with a $5.2 million decline in the valuation of construction for which building permits were issued.
Meanwhile, Jefferson County recorded a more than $7 million increase in its 2002 building permit valuation — but county officials there believe that much of the increase is attributable to a mid-year building permit fee increase.
The latest monthly report from Clallam County’s Department of Community Development Building Division shows the county’s total valuation for 2002 building permits issued at $55.8 million for 1,124 permits issued.
This compares to $60.9 million for 1,079 permits issued in 2001.
Clallam County’s 2002 numbers represent an 8 percent decline in building valuation through December, compared to 2001’s year-end figures.
