Peninsula: Ex-Sequim mayor says he”ll challenge Rep. Buck in fall

Former Sequim Mayor Bill Thomas announced Monday that he will seek the Democratic nomination for the state House of Representatives seat currently held by Jim Buck, R-Joyce.

Buck represents the 24th District, which includes all of Clallam and Jefferson counties in addition to a portion of Grays Harbor County.

Buck is finishing his fourth two-year term in the state Legislature, and Monday night said he’s confident that he will win a fifth term in office.

Thomas’ announcement comes three weeks after he submitted his resignation from the Sequim City Council, saying he needed to devote more time to his family and his business as a consultant for people building their own homes.

On Monday, Thomas said he wanted to be sure he had support before making public his decision to run for the House.
