VICTORIA — Union Jacks and maple leafs will fill the air Sunday as thousands of fans gather to welcome Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Prince Philip.
The queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will be visiting the city as part of their golden jubilee, which marks the 50th anniversary of Elizabeth’s ascension to the throne of Great Britain and Canada.
Although some Canadians are downplaying the historic visit, several residents of Clallam and Jefferson counties are planning to make the trip across the Strait of Juan de Fuca just for a glimpse of the royals.
“We’re all going to dress up in red, white and blue,” Jane Andrews of Sequim said Thursday. “We’re going to take our Union Jacks to wave.”
