PORT ANGELES — Twinkling lights, fresh pine boughs and lavish decorations are putting people in the holiday spirit at this year’s Festival of Trees.
“It turns you on to Christmas,” Port Angeles resident Peggy Green said Saturday as she and friend Jean Goot wandered through the 40 trees on display at Vern Burton Community Center.
“It makes you want to go home and decorate,” added Goot, of Sequim.
The three-day festival — a fund-raiser for Olympic Medical Center Foundation and Port Angeles Exchange Club — continues today with Family Days from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Vern Burton, 308 E. Fourth St.
The foundation supports health care initiatives at Olympic Medical Center. The Exchange Club supports civic and community activities improving the lives of children and others.
Admission to Family Days costs $4 and is free to children younger than 12.
The festival, in its 12th year, features thematically decorated wreaths and 4-foot and 6-foot trees that sold for an average $1,500 to $2,000 each during an auction Friday night.
The auction raised $54,900.
