Peninsula food banks distributing turkeys for Thanksgiving

Food banks across the North Olympic Peninsula will distribute turkeys and other Thanksgiving trimmings between Friday and Wednesday, or Thanksgiving eve.

Sequim Food Bank

The Sequim Food Bank, 144 W. Alder St., will distribute up to 900 turkey dinners for Thanksgiving and 700 for Christmas, said Stephen Rosales, board president for the food bank.

Distribution days for Thanksgiving are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. Monday.

The food bank will be closed Friday, Nov. 24.

Port Angeles Food Bank

The Port Angeles Food Bank, 402 S. Valley St., recently purchased $250 worth of turkeys and still stocks a “good supply” of hams, potatoes, onions, cranberries and other traditional fixings.

Those items are available during regular distribution hours — 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays — during the month of November until Thanksgiving Day.

Port Townsend Food Bank

The Port Townsend Food Bank, 1925 Blaine St., will give away 350 turkeys donated by Arrow Lumber on Wednesday, Thanksgiving eve, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Forks Community Food Bank

The Forks Community Bank, 181 Bogachiel Way, will dole out “the whole gamut” — about 350 turkeys and all the trimmings one could hope for — Tuesday from noon to 4 p.m.

About 312 people have signed up so far. Another sign-up opportunity takes place today during regular food bank hours: 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

However, no one will be turned away for lack of registration, Executive Director Pat Soderlind said.

Come Christmastime, the food bank will give out at least 250 ham meals.
