Suffering jet lag and weary after a cross-country plane ride, Marlin Fitzwater kicks back Thursday afternoon in his room at the Red Lion Hotel in Port Angeles.
With sleep to catch up on and a speech to write — then deliver in less than three hours — an interview with a PDN reporter might rank low on his priority list.
But Fitzwater is a seasoned pro, unphased by the laundry list of questions.
As press secretary to two U.S. presidents, he’s gone head-to-head with the best of them; the cream of Washington, D.C.’s press corps crop.
This week, he’s in Clallam County to share the experience, making two appearances for the Peninsula College Foundation’s annual “American Conversations” series.
Fitzwater addressed a crowd at a Thursday fund raiser in the banquet room of SunLand Country Club in Sequim.
He’s scheduled to speak at 7:30 p.m. today, Friday, in the Little Theater at Peninsula College, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.
“This really is a beautiful area,” Fitzwater says as he stares out at the Port Angeles Harbor.
