Contributions are still coming in, but as of Monday, a record-smashing $53,264 from people and organizations in Clallam and Jefferson counties had been donated to the Peninsula Daily News’ Peninsula Home Fund during the holiday season.
The 2001 campaign broke the old record set in 2000 of $42,703.
“We’re thrilled to death and so thankful to everyone in the community,” said Tim Hockett of nonprofit Olympic Community Action Programs, the No. 1 emergency care agency on the North Olympic Peninsula which manages the fund for the PDN.
“This will enable us to help many, many more people.”
The 2001 fund-raising campaign began Thanksgiving weekend and ended Dec. 31.
The Peninsula Daily News published stories, along with a donation coupon, every Wednesday and Sunday during the campaign about how the fund works to enrich the lives of people in Jefferson and Clallam counties.
The books on the 2001 fund drive will be finalized later this month, after all the contributions have been received.
But the Peninsula Home Fund itself never closes.
Donations of any amount are always welcome. They can be sent at any time to Peninsula Home Fund, Peninsula Daily News, P.O. Box 1330, Port Angeles, WA 98362.
Contributions dated after Dec. 31 will go toward the 2002 campaign.
All contributions are fully IRS tax-deductible.
