A JACKPOT OF more than a quarter-billion dollars hovers over tonight’s Powerball lottery jackpot in Washington state, 41 other states and two territories tonight.
The six-number Powerball will be drawn tonight for a total estimated jackpot of $260 million, which grows from game to game when nobody hits all six numbers in the twice-weekly drawing.
If nobody hits all six numbers tonight, the jackpot estimate is expected to swell to near $300 million.
Powerball currently holds the record for the largest single prize awarded by an American lottery, set on Feb. 18, 2006, when a single ticket won the advertised $365 million jackpot.
The eight people sharing the ticket elected to take the cash option instead of the 20-year annuity, and split $177,270,519.67 before taxes.
