GARDINER — Finding a route for Olympic Discovery Trail between Blyn and the Clallam-Jefferson county line should be a cakewalk if Monday night’s meeting sponsored by the Peninsula Trails Coalition is any indication.
The meeting was a love fest compared with the previous week’s gathering, when residents living near Sequim Bay State Park made it clear that they don’t want the trail running through their neighborhoods north of U.S. Highway 101.
The discussion of location for 3.5-mile stretch of trail from Whitefeather Way to Blyn may be far from over.
Chuck Preble, neighborhood coordinator for the trails coalition, said a possible route on the south side of the highway presents some difficulties. Preble indicated both sides of the highway are still being considered for the route.
Preble said the coalition will make a recommendation about trail route, adding that it will be up to Clallam County officials to make the final decision.
“We owe some good reasons why the trail should stay on the north side of the highway,” Preble said.
