Expect a busy summer of roadwork on the North Olympic Peninsula — one that could lead to some serious traffic backups.
So say state Department of Transportation officials, preparing to repave more than 16 miles of U.S. Highway 101 — including busy Lincoln Street and Lauridsen Boulevard in Port Angeles.
Also included in the construction work is state Highway 112, and the launch of three years of modernizing the aging Hood Canal Bridge leading to its east half replacement.
“The Washington State Department of Transportation is working hard to alert motorists, local businesses, emergency response organizations and other impacted groups to roadway construction during the upcoming summer months,” said Randy Hain, state transportation’s Olympic Region administrator.
“We know that projects can be a temporary inconvenience for tourists, shoppers, businesses and communities.
Highway 101 repaving projects likely to slow traffic the most are in and near Port Angeles: A 2.5-mile stretch east of the Morse Creek bend to near O’Brien Road, and a 1.9-mile segment through the heart of Port Angeles.
