SEQUIM — It’s a game, but Jerry Martinez isn’t playing around.
To say that the diehard Seahawks fan from Sequim bleeds blue, green and silver is an understatement.
When Martinez, 56, heads down the road to a Seahawks game, there’s no doubt that it’s a direct route.
That’s because Martinez’s 38-foot, 2002 diesel pusher motor home — a tailgate party on wheels — is wrapped in a $10,000 decal depicting the NFL’s most valuable player Shaun Alexander and cornerback Marcus Trufant.
“Don’t ever call me a wannabe fan,” he said.
On Sunday, the Seahawks will face the Carolina Panthers in the National Football Conference championship game
The Seahawks are favored to win and advance to the team’s first Super Bowl.
Martinez will be there. In fact, he hasn’t missed a game, home or away, in four years.
Seahawks van
Another area superfan, Bob Lucas of Port Angeles, won’t be at the game Sunday, but every time he gets in his van he has his favorite team on display.
That’s because Lucas’ 1977 Chevrolet van has the Seahawks stripes down the side, with a helmet and the number 12 on the back.
Twelve is the official number of Seattle Seahawks fans.
Lucas, 47, bought the four-wheel-drive van two years ago to take his friends fishing, but the high-fives and horn honking are added perks.
“When I bought it, I didn’t think anything about it,” Lucas said.
He has slowly been restoring it, and has considered a new paint job. But if he did, the stripes would stay.
Considering the success of the Seahawks this season — the farthest the team has gone in the playoffs in its 30-year history — Lucas’ brother wanted to see what price the van would fetch at the online auction site eBay.
But Lucas isn’t selling.
“It’s worth more to me the way it is,” he said.
