OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — A 22-year-old man was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Sunday after he nearly drowned in a swimming pool at Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort.
Barb Maynes, park spokeswoman, said it was unclear how the man got into the pool before he was observed lying on the bottom.
After he was pulled from the water and placed in a recovery position, rescuers determined that he had a pulse and was breathing on his own.
A park rangers responding to the scene gave the man oxygen and said he became more responsive with treatment.
Resort lifeguards and two registered nurses who were visiting the resort also helped with the recovery.
A Fire District 1 ambulance, accompanied by a doctor from Forks Community Hospital, took the man to the Lake Crescent Lodge.
From there, a helicopter flew him to Seattle, Maynes said.
