OLYMPIA — North Olympic Peninsula teachers joined about 30,000 people from throughout the state Tuesday to protest proposed educational funding cuts during the Day of Action rally.
More than 500 teachers from Chimacum, Port Townsend, Sequim and Port Angeles marched in the rally and cheered speakers at the East Capitol Campus in Olympia.
“We want the Legislature to listen to what we are saying today,” said Kathy Plakinger, a fourth-grade teacher at Jefferson Elementary School in Port Angeles. “I hope they will keep the commitment already made.”
Teachers said they want the Legislature to honor and fully fund voter-approved Initiatives 728 and 732.
