Peninsula: Virginia Mason Clinic in Sequim to close

SEQUIM — After four years in business, the Virginia Mason Clinic in Sequim is closing its doors.

Virginia Mason officials announced Monday that the clinic, which serves more than 6,000 patients, will shut down permanently on March 29.

The closure follows the resignation of the clinic’s entire staff of seven doctors during the last month.

All of those physicians say they plan to continue practicing in Sequim.

Besides doctors and patients, the closure will affect a support full-time equivalent staff of 32 who work in jobs ranging from X-ray technician to receptionist to nurse to laboratory worker.

Virginia Mason officials said the prospect of competing against doctors who are already established in the area is the primary reason the clinic was shutting down.
