PORT ANGELES — The reorganization of the North Olympic Peninsula Visitor and Convention Bureau has moved a step closer to completion.
Guidelines for a new board of directors are in place — and there’s talk of possible staff cutbacks.
The new 13-member board will consist of representatives from lodgings and tourist attractions as well as at-large members, the VCB’s current 25-member board decided at a meeting Thursday.
The VCB is being transformed into an organization with one mission — promoting only Clallam County as a tourist and visitor destination — instead of its mission since the mid-1980s of organizing tourism marketing for the entire North Olympic Peninsula.
The move is seen by its organizers as a cost-saving measure for local chambers of commerce, businesses and other tourist organizations.
It shifts most visitor marketing and funding of tourism events to the local chambers.
The move toward decentralized marketing began in June.
