PORT TOWNSEND – It’s thumbs up for a Jefferson County International Airport project that could add up to 65 new hangars, Port of Port Townsend officials said.
Work is expected to begin in April, with independent contractors possibly beginning to build new condominium hangars they would own on airport property leased from the port.
After two years of waiting, the port this week received a wetlands concurrence and mitigation plan permit from the Army Corps of Engineers.
The permit allows the port to direct contractor Seton Construction to begin digging a drainage retention pond at the airport’s southeast corner near state Highway 19.
The hangar site will be toward the end of the runway’s north side.
Hangars on port-owned land already exist on the airport’s west end, near state Highway 20.
