PORT ANGELES — Downtown gift store owner Edna Petersen and grocery clerk Max Mania appear headed toward a runoff in the November election for a Port Angeles City Council seat.
In tabulation tonight, Peterson had a 1,278-vote tally for a total of 39.69 percent of the returns.
Mania had 1,190 votes, or 36.96 percent.
Two other candidates were far behind.
Papermaker Rick Burton had 427 votes for 13.26 percent, and online publisher Peter Ripley had 325 votes for 10.09 percent.
It is a low voter turnout in the all-mail election: only 29.42 percent of 11,181 registered voters in the city of Port Angeles bothered to vote in Clallam County’s only primary election.
