FORKS — A petition to recall Mayor Nedra Reed of Forks was filed with Clallam County Auditor’s Office on Monday.
The petition outlines seven charges against Reed, who was elected mayor in 2001 and re-elected in 2005.
The charges on the petition will be reviewed by a Clallam County Superior Court judge before signatures can be collected.
If sufficient signatures are collected, a recall election must be held.
“It is unfortunate for this community that this situation has reached this level,” said Reed, who had not been served with the papers and thus had not seen the charges Monday afternoon.
“But as I have said and continue to say, I have served this community to the best of my abilities.
“Unfortunately, the situation now is that the taxpayers have the responsibility to pay for the defense against these allegations.”
The Forks City Council voted March 10 to pay Reed’s legal costs should a recall attempt be launched against her.
Reed said any further comment would come from her attorney, Craig Ritchie of Sequim.
