Platte Canyon High School student athletes paddled the Team PCHS Yacht Club boat Credimus to a 23rd-place finish out of a field of 106 boats in the Seventy48 race from Tacoma to Port Townsend. They began to disassemble their handcrafted trimaran Monday for the trip back to Colorado. Some of the students gave a presentation to 100 Blue Heron Middle School seventh-graders at the Northwest Maritime Center, telling tales of the boat’s construction and experiences during their 17 hours and 48 minutes in the race. They said no one outside of their workroom at school believed they could succeed in their journey. Most said they would do another race again in the boat, and some said they would be interested in participating in next year’s Race to Alaska “proving ground” leg from Port Townsend to Victoria.
