PORT TOWNSEND — Braley Phillips, 13, a student at Blue Heron Middle School in Port Townsend, struggles with a loaded wheelbarrow filled with damp manure while volunteering for a Martin Luther King Jr. Day project at the Blue Heron Orchard on Monday.
The project involved distributing 50 cubic yards of mulch, 20 cubic yards of manure and 125 pounds of gypsum, among other supplements, in order to winterize the 70 fruit trees for the next growing season.
