PORT ANGELES — Master woodcarver Jimmy Price, center, with Port Angeles High School S’Klallam language instructor Jamie Valadez and others, gather to dedicate the new archway into the high school’s garden at a ceremony during an open house at the school Sept. 18.
The ceremony included traditional native music and drumming, and was followed by a campfire in the garden with cocoa and roasted marshmallows.
The arbor at the entrance features hand-carved artwork created by students under the supervision of Price.
The project exposed students to traditional woodworking techniques.
The arbor was funded by a Potlatch Grant from the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe.
