Regraveling at the Port of Port Townsend began this week and is expected to direct water flow into filtration systems and create a hard surface for the travel lift.
Mark Horton, consulting environmental engineer, said 1,600 tons of gravel will cover both the 200 and 300 ton boat yard, as well as the travel way.
Seton Construction began the job by breaking up the existing surface so the new gravel will mix in and become tightly compacted.
This is part of regular yard maintenance and the job should be completed Friday.
