Holiday spirit served up in Port Angeles

Burk Alert, left, and Melissa Allen, both of Port Angeles, hand out the gift of a blanket and a bowl of hot soup to James Cray, who said he was homeless, on Christmas Day on the plaza in front of the Conrad Dyar Memorial Fountain in downtown Port Angeles.

Allen said her family was in Eastern Washington over the holidays and she said, “Instead of wasting money on presents, we should feed some hungry people instead.”

The duo set up a camp stove to keep three kettles of soup warm with sandwiches available for anyone who wanted some.
