PORT TOWNSEND – The company that rebuilt Hudson Point Marina is preparing to resume state-funded pilings removal work on the city’s waterfront.
“In the next week or two, we plan to get out there and start again,” said Caicos Corp. project manager Sam Berry.
The state Department of Natural Resources contracted Caicos to remove an old rail trestle span and about 200 old pier pilings as part of Gov. Chris Gregoire’s Puget Sound Initiative to remove 3,300 tons of toxic creosote-treated material.
Creosote is deemed harmful to marine life.
More piling removals under the Puget Sound Initiative will be done in Port Angeles Harbor after the Port Townsend work is completed.
