Pirate Pete’s Week at Peninsula College

PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College students, from left, Robert Williams and Matthew Larson, both of Forks, and Austin Savage of Sequim, cavort in a bounce house set up in the college’s Pirate Union Building on the Port Angeles campus Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2020.

The bounce house was one of many installations during Pirate Pete’s Week, a celebration of school spirit.

Below, Peninsula College student Manny Lopez of Wenatchee, right, laughs as he throws in the towel after being defeated in Wednesday’s student food eating contest by fellow student Boot Hill of Joyce, as each tried to be the first to consume a entire can of Spam in the Pirate Union Building on the Port Angeles campus.

The event, which required participants to eat pizza, doughnuts and noodle soup in elimination rounds, was part of Pirate Pete’s Week. Overseeing the food contest was school mascot Pirate Pete, portrayed by student Chloe Merlow of Reno, Nev.
