PORT ANGELES — A new city animal control ordinance is in the works, adding provisions for in-city hunting and dangerous animals, and boosting fees for pet licensing.
Port Angeles Police Chief Tom Riepe will present the 37-page draft ordinance to the City Council at Monday night’s meeting, with a recommendation for the council to adopt the ordinance Nov. 1.
The new rules would replace a 1988 ordinance that Riepe said is deficient in some areas.
“Our ultimate goal is for the care and the welfare of the animals, and the community,” Riepe said Wednesday.
The proposed ordinance prohibits people from keeping “inherently dangerous” animals such as raccoons, skunks, bears, venomous snakes, crocodiles and members of the dog or cat families not typically domesticated.
