PORT ANGELES — The downtown Gateway transit center could become a reality as soon as June 2003.
It all depends on when construction can start, weather conditions and the time it takes to buy the land from private owners, said Tacoma architect Lee Pardini, the project’s chief designer.
During the first of two Gateway presentations Thursday at City Hall, Pardini said the $4.5 million city-state-federal project would serve as an attractive entrance to the downtown in addition to being a staging area for up to six Clallam Transit buses.
The complex — officially known as “The Port Angeles International Gateway Transportation Center” — would be located on a portion of a city block known as “Tidelands East,” bounded by Railroad Avenue and Front Street, Lincoln and Laurel streets.
