PORT ANGELES — Genevieve “Genny” Monahan has been named the 2008 Nurse of the Year by the Home Care Association of Washington.
She has been a registered nurse at Olympic Medical Home Health, a division of Olympic Medical Center, since 2005.
“She has an avid interest in tribal history, culture and customs,” said Fran Sisson, home health administrator, “and is dedicated to ensuring that these important elements are part of people’s care plan development.
“We have four tribes in our area that Genny serves [Quileute, Makah, Lower Elwha Klallam and Jamestown S’Klallam], and she has made it a goal to know them very well.”
Monahan designs jewelry and has created a special bracelet for her patients.
The “Remembering Bracelet” reminds patients they have made commitments to managing their health.
Monahan will receive the Nurse of the Year award next month at the annual Home Care Association of Washington conference.
