Port Angeles: Big Hurt event scheduled this weekend

PORT ANGELES — There could be quite a fight for the Big Hurt relay title this weekend.

Glens and Friend, the defending relay champions, will need to pay special attention to Mitch McDougall and his newly created team.

McDougall, of Port Angeles, has gathered some of the top local talent and hopes to knock off the champs.

“It looks good,” McDougall said.

His optimism is well placed.

Here’s why.

McDougall — who previously competed as an Ironman in the four-event race — has won the mountain bike portion every year since the Big Hurt began four years ago.

This year’s race is set for Sunday and includes four stages — a 17-mile mountain bike, 4.5-mile sea kayak, 40-mile road bike and 10-kilometer run.

This year, McDougall will complete just the mountain bike portion.
