PORT ANGELES — The city’s retired economic development director is coming back as a temporary consultant for four months or until the city fills its newly created economic and community development director position.
The City Council voted 4-1 Tuesday to approve a contract for economic development services with Tim Smith, who retired as the city’s economic development director Nov. 30 after 30 years with the city.
Councilwoman Lauren Erickson voted “no” and Mayor Richard Headrick — Smith’s brother-in-law — abstained from the vote.
Councilwoman Karen Rogers, in Washington, D.C., was absent from the meeting.
The contract pays Smith $52 an hour for up to 30 hours per week and does not include expenses.
Smith is not covered by the city’s liability insurance.
As economic development director, Smith’s annual salary was $68,166.
The salary for his replacement will range from $73,628 to $87,994 because of additional community development responsibilities.
