Port Angeles chamber seeks new marketing slogan

PORT ANGELES — Aug. 31 is the deadline to submit suggestions for a new marketing slogan for the Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce.

The chamber’s current theme, which is used on brochures and posters, is “Port Angeles, Washington: The Center Of It All On The Olympic Peninsula.”

It has been used for the last seven years, and it is time for an update, said Russ Veenema, chamber executive director.

Veenema said key elements of a marketing slogan are:

–The shorter the better.

— Best if able to be used for more than just tourism.

— Should be truthful and accurate.

— Easily understood and memorable.

— Authentic and realistic.

To submit a slogan, e-mail russ@portangeles.org.

For more information, phone Veenema at 360-452-2363, Ext. 13.

A 65-foot-long historic tug rests in the Port of Port Townsend Boat Haven Marina’s 300-ton marine lift as workers use pressure washers to blast years of barnacles and other marine life off the hull. The tug was built for the U.S. Army at Peterson SB in Tacoma in 1944. Originally designated TP-133, it is currently named Island Champion after going through several owners since the army sold it in 1947. It is now owned by Debbie Wright of Everett, who uses it as a liveaboard.
