Haille Alley was listed in critical condition Sunday afternoon following her heart transplant surgery Saturday night at Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle, according to hospital spokeswoman Susan Macek.
“It will take some time to know if the surgery was a success, as much as 48 hours to a week.
“It is a very serious operation, so we just have to wait and see,” Macek said.
Haille was added to a national heart transplant list on March 11.
The initial estimate for finding a heart was up to six months, but one became available in less than a week.
A heart donor was located in Phoenix. The Seattle transplant team flew to Phoenix at about 10 a.m. to harvest the heart.
The surgery was expected to begin about 6:30 p.m. Saturday and last five to seven hours.
Seattle officials have not confirmed that the planned timetable was that used.
The 21-month-old Port Angeles girl was diagnosed with congenital heart failure Feb. 17, after doctors found a tumor on the left side of her heart.
Haille is the granddaughter of Don and Kathleen Anding of Port Angeles.
