PORT ANGELES — Choice Community School, an alternative high school serving Port Angeles School District students, has earned its stripes.
The district received notice Thursday that it is now an accredited high school from the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools.
The school officially finished the six-year evaluation period on May 3, according to the letter from the Commission on Schools State Accreditation Committee.
“It’s cool,” Port Angeles School District Superintendent Gary Cohn said.
“They’ve been working on this for a while.”
Cohn said Choice students had been receiving their diplomas through Port Angeles High School.
Now Choice will be able to issue its own diplomas, plus have credits earned by students, transcripts and diplomas recognized by the other accredited schools in the region.
The accreditation is valid for six years.
