Port Angeles: City attorney hopes to enjoy area after retirement

PORT ANGELES — Craig Knutson moved here 27 years ago because he always had liked the area, which he visited often while living in Seattle.

A hiker, fisherman and mountain climber, he hopes to have more time to enjoy the North Olympic Peninsula following his retirement next month after almost 21 years as the city attorney for Port Angeles.

Knutson, 55, was recognized for his service as the city’s legal counsel during ceremonies at the Feb. 17 City Council meeting.

He probably will continue practicing law part time after retirement, Knutson said.

He also might move to Seattle eventually, where his two brothers and one of his two sons live.

The city had 21 responses to a recent advertisement looking for Knutson’s replacement.

Names haven’t been released yet. The job has a salary range of $78,112 to $93,367 annually.

City Manager Michael Quinn said he hopes to interview candidates on March 18 and have a replacement by the end of April or beginning of May.
