PORT ANGELES — A skate park in the northeast corner of Erickson Park near Race Street was unanimously approved by the City Council on Tuesday night.
“I’m particularly excited about this opportunity to move forward with a skate park for Port Angeles,” Parks and Recreation Director Marc Connelly said.
“What was once considered a fad is now a trend.”
The city will learn in late March whether it will receive a $100,000 state grant for the estimated $240,000 project.
The city has budgeted $20,000 from its capital facilities project fund.
The remaining $120,000 will come from fund-raising efforts lead by the Nor’wester Rotary Club, which has agreed to sponsor the project.
The club’s goal is to have the park built by September.
