PORT ANGELES — Officials are taking a “wait and see” approach to development of a stormwater system following the rejection of the proposed utility Tuesday.
City Council members voted 5-2 to reject the ordinance.
Only members Lauren Erickson and Orville Campbell supported the ordinance to create a stormwater utility. They both sit on the city Utility Advisory Committee that recommended the proposal.
Under the state Growth Management Act, municipalities are required to address stormwater issues, but are not necessarily directed to create a new utility.
A state Department of Ecology manual outlines stormwater management guidelines for local governments.
