PORT ANGELES — City Council members will tour the downtown underground Monday afternoon before deciding whether saving part of it justifies adding $100,000 to the city’s water main and sidewalk project.
The council will meet at 4 p.m. Monday at the alley on the west side of Laurel Street between, First and Front streets.
The “Port Angeles Underground” consists of a two-block area around Front Street between Oak and Lincoln streets with subterranean walkways and old storefronts.
The underground includes colorful wall murals, the Elwha Theater basement, 1900s facades and a tunnel to the former brothel above Family Shoe Store, 130 W. Front St.
