PORT ANGELES — The preferred design for the new Eighth Street bridges will be chosen by the City Council at a special meeting next month, the Chamber of Commerce was told Monday.
The city is planning to replace the two Eighth Street bridges towering over Valley and Tumwater creeks beginning in 2005. The project could cost up to $20 million and take up to two construction seasons.
City Public Works Director Glenn Cutler and Deputy Director of Engineering Gary Kenworthy gave a presentation to chamber members and answered questions Monday as part of the city’s public outreach campaign.
They keynoted the chamber’s weekly luncheon meeting at the Port Angeles CrabHouse Restaurant.
Eight potential bridge designs — replacing the current narrow trestles built in the 1930s — are displayed in a brochure available at City Hall, or by going to the city’s Web site at www.ci.port-angeles.wa.us and clicking on “Eighth Street Bridges Replacement Project.”
